Her career in journalism began with Myrtle Beach South Carolina as an anchor and news reporter with WPDE-TV. O'Dell later became morning news anchor for WCBD TV and also as the crime reporter. While in Charleston O'Dell's stories on the lenient police approach towards DUI cases led to a State Law Enforcement Division investigation that led to states authorities again releasing a more stringent directive regarding these instances. According to the Associated Press awarded Ms. O'Dell the Best Report of the year Award to all South Carolina media. Her work in Charleston was the reason she joined as a co-anchor, reporter and anchor for NBC's Miami WTVJ-TV. Before joining Access Hollywood she was a weekday co-anchor as well as the NBC weekend co-anchor. In addition, she serves as an anchor on Dateline NBC and NBC News Today. She covered events such as The Oscars, The Emmys, The Grammys, and The Golden Globe Awards. Alongside co-hosting the Pre-ShowArrivals for The Emmys & The Golden Globes. She also hosts The Miss America Pageant as well as the Miss USA Pageant and Miss Universe.
